Celebrating the 24th of July in Lund Nevada

The evening sky in Lund, Nevada

Laura Hendrix is 107 years old and she led the parade.  She is quite a gal.  She participated in all of the activities of the day and attended her church meetings the following day.  She was born in 1905.

The Carter Float.  Phil Carter is on the old tractor.  I love floats depicting the era that I grew up in.

I am so sorry.  I thought I had taken more pictures of the home but I got busy visiting and I neglected to take more.  They removed the wall between the kitchen and dining room and put two matching windows in replacing the door and the old window.  A beautiful view looking out the window at the apricot tree covered with apricots.  If you look really close you can see Grandma's favorite apricot tree.

The refrigerator and stove are on the west wall with  beautiful cupboards and the sink is located on the South wall.  Yes, the bathroom door is still there leading into the bathroom. They are making a large bathroom which includes the closet in Grandma's room and also the bathroom.  They have built a clothes closet where the sewing machine was and where the door from the bathroom was located. The screen on the side porch has been replaced with windows and they will be putting windows in the ceiling on the porch because a plant nursery will be located there.
The yellow bedroom in the back has been completely gutted and they have put in a new ceiling and insulation in the walls.  They are putting in a door that will go directly into the new bathroom from the back bedroom.

Connie,  Brittany's mom is the lady in the picture.  She is the daughter of J.L. and Dawn Whipple.  If you ever go to Lund, I am sure they would let you visit your Great Grandma and Grandpa's home.  Aren't we pleased that the home is being updated and improved?  We have fond memories of this home and now another family is making their own memories.  Isn't that what life all about!!!

The yard is also beautiful with a large garden and not a weed in sight. That is,  in Brittany's section.  Wade and Brittany each have their own section that they keep weeded.  They have 3 children.  Two little boys and a 7 month old.

This is the home that your Grandma Helen grew up in.  Clint, Anita's son has  recently purchased it and he is continually improving it. They had renters in it for many years and it was very neglected.  What a blessing that Clint is putting in the time to make it nice.

I sure enjoyed getting to know Clint's wife Kelly and their two girls.  Kelly is from Korea and she met Clint at the Univ. of Utah.

Guess What!!!!!!  After 6 years I finally finished my basket quilt.  No I haven't been working on it that long.  It has been just waiting for me to bind it and get it hung on my bedroom wall.  This is one of the first quilts that I started when I came up to Salt Lake.

FINISHED AND HUNG IN PLACE!!!!!

  1. I am so glad you were able to go to Lund for the 24th. Grandma's house looks so modern, but I will always think of it the way it used to be. I am glad you hung your basket quilt. It looks great and really brightens up your room!
